Will McConnell
Jeweler.
Will McConnell has been creating jewelry for over 20 years. Introduced to the medium in the Albuquerque High School small metals program, he has continued to operate a personal studio ever since. The work is fabricated from sterling silver, his love for the material undeniably influenced by his New Mexican upbringing. Each piece is carefully thought out; created by cutting, soldering, melting, and shaping the metal into the desired form, then sanding and polishing it to a specific finish. The processes and techniques are time-consuming, but he values creating each component by hand to bestow certain qualities and characteristics in the work. Combining functionality with aesthetic brings twice the challenge but also twice the gratification, fueling his passion for the craft.
Will holds a degree in business from the University of New Mexico, where he accumulated excessive art credits along the way. He currently resides in the UNM area and can often be found mountain biking the Sandias or out exploring with his beautiful wife and kids. Drawing inspiration from a lifetime of creativity, Will brings a unique perspective to his craft.
I feel most grounded when I am immersed in a natural world and surrounded by organic patterns; alternatively, my mind races and stimulates my body in a completely different way when I’m interacting with human design. I think the intersection of the two is where things become most interesting: a decaying road sign framing out the wandering mesa it once blocked, an aluminum clad building forcing itself upon the surrounding trees, or a more natural structure of stone or mud, convincing us of its belonging.
