Stephen Mora

Artist. Fabricator. Architect.

"Whether we are talking about water resources, economic prosperity, or access to technology, New Mexico is a literal and figurative desert. In my opinion, where New Mexico excels, is in our resiliency and resourcefulness. Resourcefulness is not a means of coping with deficiency; it is a virtue that can create opportunity for culture and context to materialize while opening doors to greater accomplishment. This notion is a pedagogical keystone that can inspire new modes of thinking, learning, and creating. The lowrider is a great demonstration of this."

Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Stephen Mora is an 8th generation New Mexican. Steve’s work explores mixed media art, computational design, and novel fabrication techniques. These interests triangulate in a way that influence his work, providing opportunities to explore notions of hybridized processes.

Steve has a lifelong affinity for lowrider art and culture. The lowrider embodies creativity, care, craft, and ingenuity, and although the lowrider is not new, it is an innovative and resourceful manifestation of individuality and pride.
